Latest Trend in the Music Industry for Teens
Contributed by Ray Lim Zi Gao

As we all know, music is very popular in singapore. most of the teenagers here likes to listen to music. therefore, theres alot of views and opinions i gotten through the internet resources.
Personally, music trend to me is about living with music.

Summary of resources:
The findings i found and gathered are briefly described as 'random'
why did i choose the word random because in singapore, music trend is so widely ranged that random could possibly be the only word to define singapore's music industry.
in my opinion, singapore music trend is more towards chinese music. targetting teens going to audition and media coverage competitions like superstar and super band.
making singapore teens more exposed to music in hoping to realise their dream.
which is a good thing, cause nowadays nearly everyday teens listens to music indoor/outdoor.
the resources i gathered was:
"I find a majority of Singaporean youths' music tastes tends to lean more towards Mandopop. It is quite evident in the amount of support mandopop artists receive from Singaporean fanclubs. I mean, have you seen how those groupies mob their SHEs and 5566s at the airport, concerts and signing sessions?"
"i think that singapore leans more towards mandopop and western music equally. apart from that, most other genres or languages can't really penetrate the market unless they're really popular say like ayumi etc. its sad but true, yet not unexpected considering the fact that majority of us are chinese anyway (not me though..)

personally i listen to anything from classical (howard shore's LoTR symphony is coming to s'pore in june!!), to metal (X Japan?), to symphonic metal (XD), to rock (I actually like old bands), and mainly unhealthy doses of jrock, or alternative. Personally I like music and sound, so I can listen to anything as long as it's not noise. But not everyone in singapore has such a high tolerance for uncommon genres i guess"
"I think Singapore youths have v.mixed preferences in music, but the majority prefer mainstream music, whether Chinese, English, Japanese or even Korean. To me, this kind of 'mainstream' music would refer to songs often played by radio stations, have prominent marketing..etc.
Seems to me tt not alot of pple go discovering relatively less known bands/singers, or less popular genres"

Discuss the developments of Cancer Research
Contributed by Joanna

Cancer is the top killer in the medical field. Many people in Singapore was the victim of Cancer and once a patient got that illness the chances of recovery would be very little. It affects people of all ages even feteuses. Even though a patient had recover, the cancer cells will grow back in a later time if it does not taken care properly. Doctors and researchers have been trying to find means and ways to completely remove the cancer cells withour damaging the rest of the body but it does not succeed. The research developement is still going on and hoping to find the best way of curing cancer. A number of experimental cancer tratments is under development hoping that it will be a success.

Summary of resources:
The resources helps me to know more about the developments of cancer research. A single cancer cell could not be seen by naked eye but can regrow in to a new tumor which is bigger. I learnt that once a person got Cancer, the chances of recovery is very slim but there are people who have fully recovered. It takes a patient lots of determination and patience to recover completely as the pain they face is unbearable. But those who have completely recovered has to take good care as their body would be very weak and there will still be chances of cancer cells growing back.

Currently there are several ways of treating cancer but thsoe are not the best ways as it removes the cancer cells but damage other parts of the body. Some of the known methods are by surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and immunotherapy.

Surgery can be done if the cancer cells are focus at a part and does not spread widely to other parts of the body. Normally it is done for small cancer such as breast cancer. This treatment is done by stages where a therapy is needed after the surgery. The goal of this surgery is to remove only the tumor or the entire organ.

Radiation therapy uses ionizing radiation to kill cancer celles and shrink tumors. This treamtment not only kills the cancer cells but also the healthy cells as well. It damage the cells and make it impossible for the cells to continue growing and spread. The goal of radiation therapy is to damage as many cancer cells as possible. This treatment is used to cure all types of solid tumor.

Chemotherapy is the treatment of cancer with drugs. This drug destroy cancer cells by rapidly dividing the cells. It does not only divide the cancer cells but also the healthy tissues as it could not be specific but these cells usually repair themselves after chemotherapy. Sometimes two or more drugs will be given at the same time because some will work better when combined.

Targeted therapies is available in late 1990s and is currenlty a very active research area. This therapy invovles small molecules targeted and surronded at the affected tumor. It will eventually kill the cancer cell if the nuclide decays in the vicnity of the cell.

Immunotherapy induce the patient's own immune system to fight the tumor. Vaccines are given to generate specific immune responses. It is normally used to cure bladder cancer.

Every treatment will make the patient weaker hence they need to get more rest after each treatment. People from all fields are trying to find ways to destroy cancer cells without damaging other parts of the body to prevent them from feeling weak. The research is still going on with us having patience to wait confidently and patiently for the outcome.

Discuss the Impact of Terrorism on The World Economy
Contributed by Fadli Shaifuddin

Terrorism is a group of people who go around the world to destroy property or to disrupt people living in harmony. It is usually known that the terrorist do not like the "white" people. Therefore, they will go to different countries to destroy the "white" people if they can find their usual chilling place.

Terrorism is very disruptive and very dangerous. It really harms the people all around the world and not only it destroys property or kills human being, the world's economy will also be affected. When the world's economy are affected, people will be affected and they will need to think whether they will be more careful when spending as the prices are all rising up. We as Singaporean, will need to play a part because we will need to be focused and determined that terrorist will not affect or attack our country.

Summary of resources:
All the resources that I have gathered is very useful to us. Firstly, it teaches us what is terrorist all about. After which, they will then inform us about their mssion and their base. It is usually known in Iraq, Indonesia and mostly Muslim's country. With this information, it helps us to understand the importance of being united and also the importance to have peace in the world. When everyone in the world is united, we can defeat the terrorist from harming us and also boost up the world's economy.

On top of that, they also shows us all the people who died because of terrorist attack and how they were affected by their daily lifes. In some forum, I get to know the opinion of the others on the topic about terrorist and how it affects terrorist. It is very helpful because it helps us to understand people all around the world better and to see whether they have the same opinion as me. Those who post the forum usually disagree with the topic therefore we will want to know more about it.

In addition to it, we get to study the activities that the terrorist is doing. From there, we will know their mission and their next mission. It will help the world to be on alert at all times because we wouldn't know what time, what day will they attack the world. It helps us understand about terrorist better and also the impact that they have brought to the world's economy. When all the properties in the world damaged due to the terrorist attack, we will need to re-build all the building back. On top of that, the government all around the world will need to spend huge money to re-build the building. When this happens, the world's economy will be affected and worst still, countries that is affected by the terrorist attack, their currencies will drop and they will need to depend other countries currency to regain back their currency.

They also informed us about the history of terrorist and how this group is formed. Knowing the history of the terrorist is good because it develops our understanding on what is happening all around the world.

Lastly, we will get to know on how we can prevent terrorist from attacking us and we can help to prevent it. With that, it is good to stay united and also have peace all around the world. It is always good to learn about terrorist because till now terrorist is yet to be destroyed. If the world gets to destroy the chief of the terrorist, then we can feel easy on destroying the other terrorist people.

It is a good website for student to do research topic on terrorist. All the information are relevant and it is 99% correct. Therefore, I can rely on it to gather all the information for my research topic. It is also a trustworthy website that everybody can believe the information that is been posted on the website itself. In addition to it, the links to other webpages are well organized that I can search and find all the required information on my research topic quickly and easily.

Discuss the Impact of Drugs on Youth
Contributed by Ubaidillah

The topic on drug is because to make the awareness to people. what drugs could do to you, also I wanted to know whether the person who takes drug really waste their life or could it be just for fun as in weekend activities. The culture of drugs has widen through out the world and some would even go to search for this so called “High” as what people find it heavenly tranquil if you take drugs.

Summary of resources:
As what the discussion forum discuss on, some say that some drug is actually can be controlled by user if they know their dosage which is not to over dosage themselves. Some of the stimuli of drugs are music thus most of them said that by taking drugs they could appreciate the music more.

But for some cases people who did not know how much they took is dangerous as they could get paranoia and anxiety some people had killed themselves because of drugs. Some people would double their dosage each time because to get to the same kind of feeling and some goes for the extreme which most cases cause death.

One individual stated in the forum that they want to escape from the hectic lifestyle and goes to the imaginary world by doing this would release them from their stress but often user will eventually become addicted to certain drugs, even though the drug is said not to be addictive type of drug, the side effect they could get ill or having fever if the drug is not taken these withdrawal symptom is common among drug user.

As the law in Singapore prohibits its citizen from taking drugs they could even sentence to death if the amount of drug exceeds certain amount.

Discuss the Developments and Trends in the Area of RSS/Podcasting
Contributed by Kwek Chiaw Khim

Podcasting and RSS have been growing, Mr Brown has been using them to spread jokes and his views in Singapore. I've been assigned to to find out more about the developing trends on podcasting and RSS. I also managed to find a blog on whether podcast will survive or not.

Summary of resources:
Alex Iskold does his research on whether podcasting will survive or not. Podcasting was growing, but a new trend start rising as well. It was the rise of the video's. People are able to select what they want to view, instead for podcasts where they can't be that selective. He talks about the developmento f podcasting, the trend, why it is stagnating, and the competition podcasting is getting.

Alex Iskold talked about how podcasting evolved from the radio, anyone could easily make a podcast, with a computer, microphone and recording software. When it was introduced in 2004, internet speed was already so much better, that downloading an audio file was so easy, that it easily became popular with the people.

He later compared podcast to video, podcast to blogs. He also talked about the competition from video, and the big media. He also mentioned that there was limited applicability.
